A 57-year-old Cheyenne man is being held on a $10,000 cash bond after allegedly stealing a vehicle and, once again, getting caught with drugs.

According to a booking sheet, a Laramie County Sheriff's deputy arrested Mathew Christopher Jacoby in the 200 block of East Allison Road at 12:19 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.

Jacoby was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with two felonies, including theft, a crime punishably by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both; and possession of a controlled substance - third or subsequent offense, a crime punishable by up to five years in prison, up to a $5,000 fine, or both.

It's alleged that Jacoby possessed marijuana and that if he should be convicted of that, it would be at least his third conviction for possession with prior convictions on Aug. 1, 1994; Sept. 29, 1997; Jan. 8, 2014; and March 7, 2018.

Jacoby was also charged with two misdemeanors, including no liability insurance and no registration.

Initial Court Appearance

On the afternoon of Nov. 21, Jacoby was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Sean C. Chambers on the charges.

Chambers appointed Jacoby a public defender then asked for the state's bond recommendation.

"I've had a chance to review Mr. Jacoby's federal criminal history," the state said. "I would note priors for felony drugs, burglary, a DUI, no interlock, charges of escape, IPO ... an FTA in 2018."

"Due to the two felony charges and the nature of these crimes, the state believes $10,000 would be appropriate," the state added.

Bond Set at $10K Cash

"I'm going to set your bond at $10,000 cash," Chambers told Jacoby.

"Your case will be set for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 3 at 2:15 p.m.," he added. "That preliminary hearing is set outside the 10 days provided for in the Wyoming rules of criminal procedure, that being due to the Thanksgiving holiday."

Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
