With the arrival of hot summer weather, the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities is reminding people about summer watering restrictions

  • From April 1 to November 30 watering lawns, trees, and gardens between 10 AM to 6 PM is prohibited.
  • Customers may water lawns up to three days per week, April 1 to November 30.
  • Customers may water trees and gardens as needed in accordance with the above schedule.
  • Wasting water, such as watering during high winds, rainstorms, and/or allowing water to run down the street is prohibited.
  • To establish new sod or seed, customers must obtain a watering permit and amend soils. Visit https://www.cheyennebopu.org/Cheyennes-Water/Water-Conservation/New-Lawn-Permit for the free permit.
  • Water schedule waivers are available.

BOPU Says Irrigation Systems Should Also Be Checked

A BOPU news release goes on to say ''Residents should inspect irrigation systems frequently and monitor for leaks and broken or damaged sprinkler heads.  Residents should also test and monitor the irrigation system controller and make any necessary adjustments to meet the watering schedule noted above. While the BOPU’s customer service team works diligently to notify users of abnormalities in water usage, customers should avoid just “setting and forgetting” their irrigation system.  Frequent system inspections and adjustments could save customers money each month while using water more efficiently.''

The restrictions are in place during the hot summer months to control the water consumption at the time of year with the greatest water usage.
