Cheyenne FedEx Driver Recognized for Saving Suicidal Woman’s Life
The Laramie County Sheriff's Office recently recognized a Cheyenne FedEx driver for his heroic acts in saving a suicidal woman's life.
Shane Blackmon was presented with the Civilian Lifesaving Award during the agency's annual awards ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 5.
According to Public Information Officer Brandon Warner, Blackmon was delivering packages on Aug. 20 when he noticed an overturned car on the railroad tracks in the 600 block of Interstate 80 Service Road and a woman sitting by the car.
"The female told Shane she had crashed her vehicle onto the tracks to try to kill herself," Warner said in a news release.

Warner says Shane called 911, and when he saw a train coming, he pulled the woman from the tracks and ran towards the train waving his arms.
"The conductor noticed Shane and activated the emergency brake system to stop the train, avoiding crashing into the vehicle," said Warner.
Warner says minutes later, a train came from the opposite direction.
"The female moved as if she was going to step in front of the train," said Warner. "Shane stopped her and stayed with her until deputies arrived."
"It’s an honor to recognize Shane," said Sheriff Brian Kozak. "He put himself in harm's way to help someone in need. Shane’s heroic actions saved a life.”
