Cheyenne City Council To Tackle Cox Ranch Annexation For Data Center Project

The Cheyenne City Council has several rezoning and annexation proposals on the agenda for its regular meeting on Monday night.

That includes the proposed Cox Ranch Annexation. The 1,197-acre area is located on Happy Jack Road, north of the North Range Business Park. The property is owned by Viawest Group and Skybox Data Centers.

City Put Cox Annexation Discussion On Hold In April

The city put the annexation discussion on hold in April.

The owners don't want to use the entire property for a data center project, but only part of it, and they say the data center would be partially out of public view.

Meanwhile, opponents of the annexation are asking people to wear green to tonight's meeting to show their opposition.

The Cox Ranch Annexation is the latest salvo in an ongoing debate about data centers in Laramie County. Supporters see the facilities as a potential boost to the local economy and say many of the concerns about water use and other issues are greatly exaggerated.

But opponents say the public is being 'steamrolled' by the number of data center proposals in Laramie County. Many opponents also say the City Council is not taking their concerns seriously and is refusing to listen to public comment on the issue.

The council meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Monday in the Municipal Building at 2101 O'Neil.
