A wanted 49-year-old Laramie County man was arrested Thursday morning following a high-risk warrant service at his home, the Cheyenne Police Department says.

According to Public Information Officer Alex Farkas, it was determined that Robert Campbell Jr. was staying at a home in the 3500 block of Cody Lane.

"(Campbell) had an outstanding federal warrant for probation violation on original charges of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime," Farkas said in a news release.

"Campbell previously served 180 months for being in possession of a fully functioning machine gun among other firearms," she added.

Team Takes Down Wanted Laramie County Man

Farkas says around 8:45 a.m. Thursday, the Cheyenne Police/Laramie County Joint SWAT Team, Laramie Police Special Response Team, Cheyenne Police/Laramie County Crisis Negotiation Unit, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force went to the home and made multiple announcements, commanding Campbell to exit.

"Due to his history of violence, drug trafficking, and possession of illegal firearms, he was considered to be armed and dangerous," said Farkas.

"The operation was pre-planned," she added. "SWAT team leaders completed a risk assessment in advance of the warrant service to ensure the safety of everyone in the area."

Farkas says the situation was brought to an end at 9:05 a.m. when Campbell surrendered, walking out of a nearby trailer.

Campbell was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on his warrant.

"The case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department’s Community Action Team and U.S. Marshals Service," said Farkas.
