A couple is facing felony drug possession charges following a Wednesday night traffic stop in south Cheyenne.

Cracked Windshield, Turn Signal Violation

According to booking sheets, a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper stopped 53-year-old Laurie Ellen Cascio and 55-year-old Everett Earl Hartshorn at mile marker 7 on U.S. 85 around 11:26 p.m. for having a cracked windshield that was obstructing the driver's view and not using a turn signal when turning right.

During the traffic stop, the trooper says he obtained reasonable suspicion that there was greater criminal activity occurring, so he requested a K-9, and the dog alerted on the vehicle.

K-9 Sniff Leads to Meth

A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered two ounces (56.7 grams) of crystal methamphetamine.

When the trooper informed Cascio and Hartshorn of the discovery, he says the two asked to talk with each other, which he allowed.

He says during that exchange, Cascio removed one ounce (28.35 grams) of methamphetamine from her bra along with a loaded syringe that weighed four grams with packaging.

Arrested for Felony Drug Possession

Cascio and Hartshorn were subsequently arrested and each booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance.

The two are scheduled to make their initial appearances in Laramie County Circuit Court this afternoon, May 9, at 1:30 p.m.

Please remember that all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
