UPDATE:

The Laramie County Sheriff's Office has released more details about this morning's fatal crash just east of Cheyenne.

According to Community Relations Specialist Brandon Warner, deputies were called to a single-vehicle rollover in the area of East Pershing Boulevard and Tate Road at approximately 5:23 a.m.

"The 17-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle and did not survive his injuries," Warner said in a news release. "Speed is believed to be a contributing factor."

Cheyenne Police Department spokeswoman Alex Farkas says an officer had attempted to stop the teen near East Pershing Boulevard and Taft Avenue at approximately 12:51 a.m. after seeing him rev his engine at East Pershing Boulevard and North College Drive, accelerate east on Pershing, and run a red light, but the teen sped off, outpacing the officer.

"The officer lost sight of the vehicle at approximately 12:53 a.m. while traveling east on Pershing," Farkas said in a news release. "Additional officers were called to help search the area, but they were unable to relocate the vehicle."

"At approximately 5:23 a.m., the suspect vehicle was discovered crashed on Tate Road," Farkas added.

The teen, whose name will not be released due to him being a juvenile, is the first reported person to die on Laramie County's roadways this year.
