Several law enforcement agencies cooperated on a sex offender check in Laramie County this week to make sure registered sex offenders are complying with the rules governing them under Wyoming law.

That compliance check was conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday

That's according to a post on the Laramie County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

Operation ''Safe Streets" Was  Cooperative Effort

According to the post, Operation Safe Streets was a joint enforcement effort of the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, Cheyenne Police Department, Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigations, Wyoming Probation and Parole, and US Probation and Parole.

The post says three arrests were made for non-compliance with the sex offender rules, and five more cases have been referred to the Laramie County District Attorney's Office. The DA will decide whether the subjects of those cases should face charges, and if so what specific charges would be warranted.

Among other things, "Wyo.Stat. § 6-2-320(a) prohibits adult registered sex offenders from being on school grounds or living within 1,000 feet of a school.  That statute includes some exceptions" according to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.

The Sheriff's Office in every Wyoming County is required to track registered sex offenders. The results are then posted on the state Sex Offender Registry.
