Laramie County Sheriff Offers Tips For Foiling Porch Pirates
The Laramie County Sheriff's Office has some tips to help foil people who steal packages from porches this holiday season.
That's according to a post on the agency's Facebook page.
The post offers the following tips:
1. Track your packages and get them picked up as soon as possible
2. Install a video doorbell
3. Consider buying a porch lockbox
4. Require signature on delivery
5. Make it obvious you have a home security system with signs and visible cameras
While porch pirates can strike at any time, they tend to be especially active during the holiday season, which offers a greater opportunity because of the larger number of package deliveries.
A lot of people are victimized by porch pirates. A survey by the home security company Safewise found that three out of four people included in the survey had a package stolen by thieves at least once in the past year. The same survey found that 40 percent of those folks had packages stolen more than once.
