Cheyenne, Laramie County and state law enforcement agencies are all planning  stepped-up traffic patrols for St. Patrick's Day this weekend. The agencies will especially be focused on impaired driving

The Cheyenne Police Department will also be mobilizing it's Mobile DUI Command vehicle (above photo).

"We want everyone to enjoy St. Patrick's Day, but safe driving is everyone's responsibility," said Cheyenne Police Chief Mark Francisco. "Whether you are attending a party or patronizing a local business, make sure you have a plan before going out."

"Green looks good on you; don't ruin the look with jail orange," said Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozak. "Or worse, body bag blue. Be the smartest clover in the patch."

In a release, Sgt. Jeremy Beck of the Wyoming Highway Patrol offers the following advice:

  • Remember that it is never okay to drink and drive. Designate a sober driver or plan to use a ride service to get home safely.
  • If you see a drunk driver on the road, contact the dispatch center at (307) 637-6525 and file a REDDI (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately) report or dial 9-1-1.
  • If you see a friend or family member about to drink and drive, take the keys away and make arrangements to get them home safely.

The enforcement effort will start on Friday, March 17 and run through Sunday, March 19.

Meet the Four-Legged Heroes of the Cheyenne Police Department

They may not be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but make no bones about it, police dogs play a vital role in the fight against crime.

In many situations, they're the first ones to put their lives on the line to protect their human partners, proving that not all heroes wear capes, some wear fur coats.
