The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office has launched a homicide investigation following the death of a Cheyenne transient who was found severely beaten in Curt Gowdy State Park.

According to Public Information Officer Brandon Warner, park rangers were called to an area near the dam on Crystal Lake Reservoir at 7:56 a.m. last Sunday, Aug. 20, after the victim, 50-year-old Stacey Mullen, was found unresponsive.

Mullen was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado, where he died from his injuries on Saturday, Aug. 27.

Warner says it's believed Mullen, who went by the alias of Jason Mullen, was assaulted somewhere outside of the park and then dumped there during the late night hours of Saturday, Aug. 19.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Delcamp at 307-633-4734 or Detective Sgt. Martinez at 307-633-4763.

Informants will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.00.
