
Cheyenne Police Department To Hold Meeting On Flock Cameras
The Cheyenne Police Department and the City of Cheyenne will hold a meeting next week to discuss the use of Flock cameras. or as the camera system is officially known, Flock Safety Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology.
That's according to a CPD news release
What Are Flock Cameras And What Are They Used For?
According to the Cheyenne Police Department's flock camera information page "These cameras capture temporary still images of license plates and key vehicle characteristics, such as make, color, and distinguishing features, allowing officers to identify vehicles involved in criminal activity."
The page goes on to say that the cameras are used to
- Locate stolen vehicles
- Identify suspect vehicles in criminal investigations
- Find vehicles involved in violent crimes
- Support investigations of missing, endangered, or abducted people
- Reduce the need for high-risk traffic stops or escalating encounters
The meeting will be held at the Cheyenne Public Safety Community Room at 415 W. 8th Street AT 5:30 p.m.
According to the news release, representatives of the Cheyenne Police Department and city officials will be present to explain the system and how it is used, answer any questions, and listen to comments from the public.
At last report, 23 Flock cameras were operating in Cheyenne.
