Most Wanted Colorado Sex Offender Busted In Cheyenne

One of Colorado's most wanted sex offenders was arrested in Cheyenne on Thursday according to a post on the Cheyenne Police Department Facebook page.

According to the post, on February 6 District of Colorado’s Violent Offender Task Force (COVOTF) asked for help from U.S. Marshals Service’s Wyoming Fugitive Task Force (WFTF) in locating fugitive Ben Murray. Murray had two felony warrants from the state of Colorado. One was from August 2020 for a Parole Violation and one from April 2023 for failing to register as a sex offender.

The WFTF includes members of the U.S. Marshals Service, Cheyenne Police Department, Laramie County Sheriff's Office, Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the release. The task force works with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to track down violent fugitives.

The Fugitive Task Force spent several days looking for Murray before finding out that he might be in Cheyenne. They saw him at several locations on Thursday, keeping him under surveillance.  At 6:40 p.m. he was seen going into a motel on Lincolnway. When he came out he was arrested without incident and taken to the Laramie County jail, awaiting extradition back to Colorado.

Murray Had Been Living In Cheyenne Under Several Aliases

The release says Murray was the number 8 most wanted suspect on the Colorado Bureau of Investigation's Top 100 Most Wanted Sex Offender list.

According to the post, ''Murray has an extensive criminal history which dates to 1984 and included crimes of resisting arrest, assault, theft, parole violations, drugs, obstruction, and sexual assault of a minor. He had been using one of many alias identities while living in Cheyenne.''
