Police Called To Wyoming Hotel As Angry Crowd Blocks In Border Patrol
Rock Springs Police were called out to a hotel on Thursday after an angry crowd blocked in federal Border Patrol agents and kept them from leaving.
That's according to a post on the Rock Springs Police Department Facebook page.
According to the post, police were called out to the Clarion Hotel on Thursday morning on a report of a disturbance. When police got there, they found out that federal agents were staying at the hotel. But a crowd of people had formed around the agents cars preventing them from leaving. Some people had even placed their own cars in the path of cars driven by the agents to keep them from leaving.
The agents identified themselves as Border Patrol members and asked for help in exiting the area. Police were able to escort the agents from the parking lot, diffusing the situation.
Sweetwater County Sheriff Issues Statement
The incident prompted Sweetwater County Sheriff John Grossnickle to issue a statement saying such actions are not consistent with Wyoming values and will not be tolerated.
The incident in Rock Springs is only one of many across the nation in which demonstrators critic of federal anti-immigration efforts have confronted Border Patrol officers or those of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE] agency.
Some of the confrontations have turned violent, including a pair of incidents in Minneapolis that left two people dead.
