WHP: Cheyenne Frontier Days Detail Nets 845 Stops, 22 DUI Arrests
The Wyoming Highway Patrol arrested 22 drivers for suspected drunk driving and conducted 845 traffic stops as part of a special enforcement effort during Cheyenne Frontier Days 2023.
That's according to a release from the patrol issued on Monday morning [Aug. 28]. Spokesman Kyle Mckay says the Cheyenne Frontier Days High Visibility Enforcement Detail [HVE] resulted in 48 arrests. Besides the DUI busts, those included 13 misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance arrests, three people apprehended for felony possession of a controlled substance, 1 felony warrant arrest, and 9 people who were picked up on various other charges.
Mckay says the agency only investigated 7 car crashes, none of which resulted in a serious injury or death.
The release goes on to say: "Beyond their enforcement responsibilities, our troopers played a pivotal role in providing vital support to the local community. Their presence and engagement during the Cheyenne Frontier Days event not only heightened safety measures but also nurtured positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.
