Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has ordered that Wyoming flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, July 11, in honor of former state lawmaker Kathryn Sessions.

The order applies to flags at the State Capitol and across Laramie County.

Kathryn Sessions Served in the Wyoming Legislature For Almost Two Decades

Sessions, who was a Democrat, represented Laramie County in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1993 until 1998 and in the Wyoming Senate from District 7 from 1999 to 2011. She served as Minority Leader of the Wyoming Senate from 2009 to 2010.

According to her obituary at wrcfuneral.com/obituaries, Sessions also worked as a librarian at Johnson Junior High School in Cheyenne. After leaving the legislature, she served on the Wyoming Board of Education for several years. She had a lifelong passion for education and worked as a teacher in Byron and Cowley before moving to Cheyenne. In the Wyoming Legislature, she was known for advocating for Wyoming schools and education-related issues.

Sessions was born in Jackson in 1942. She passed away in Cheyenne on May 25, 2026.
