Wyoming senior Mason Finley finished sixth in the discus and claimed his 11th All-America honor at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Oregon Friday.

His best throw was 196 feet, 5 inches (59.88 meters) in cloudy, cool temperatures that included an unfriendly wind.

In a release from the University of Wyoming, UW associate head coach Paul Barrett said, “I thought Mason competed well, but the discs were not flying well for right-handed throwers with the wind conditions. He stepped up and went after it and that is all you can ask. He represented the Pokes very well today and concluded a stellar career with his 11th All-America award. Now he will compete at the U.S. National Championships in two weeks, before starting his professional career. It has been a pleasure to work with Mason the past two years. He has been a class act and a great Cowboy teammate.”

Finley’s best mark came on his second throw. He advanced to the finals, but couldn’t further his mark over his last attempts.

Alabama’s Hayden Reed won with a throw of 205-10, as just four of the 11 competitors that entered the competition with a mark over 200 feet accomplished the feat on Friday.

The U.S. Track & Field Outdoor National Championships will be hosted in Sacramento, Calif., with Finley throwing the discus on Friday, June 27.
