Much of I-80 in Wyoming Remains Closed Thursday
The Wyoming Department of Transportation reports that much of Interstate 80 remains closed in Wyoming Thursday because of blowing and drifting snow, and strong winds.
On Wednesday, I-80 from Rwlanis to Rock Springs was closed when strong winds were causing drifts to build on the road quicker than plows could keep up. Thursday I-80 westbound from Cheyenne to Rawlins and I-80 eastbound from Evanston to Rock Springs was closed to keep traffic from acclimating around the weather affected area.
Statement from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT)
As of Feb. 14 at 8:15 a.m., I-80 is expected to remain closed between Rock Springs and Rawlins for 11-13 hours. We have pulled plows and heavy equipment from across southeast Wyoming to help open the road as quickly as possible.
Once that opens, I-80 westbound from Cheyenne to Rawlins and I-80 eastbound from Evanston to Rock Springs will open (those are closed due to parking being full in Rock Springs and Rawlins).
Yesterday's high winds and additional snow created large snowdrifts and very poor visibility. We're working to push those drifts as far back from the interstate as possible.
