In 2017, the trophy for Musical Event of the Year at the CMA Awards went to the moving collaboration between Willie Nelson and the late Glen Campbell. This year, the list is full of solid contenders, including cross-genre collaborations and poignant social statements.
Dierks Bentley's powerful collaboration with the Brothers Osborne, "Burning Man," captures the struggle of every person; the artist says it's one of his favorite songs on his new album, The Mountain. "Dear Hate," meanwhile, is a moving duet between Maren Morris and Vince Gill; Morris had demoed the song in 2016 but released it officially as as response to the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in 2017.
"Drowns the Whiskey" is a soaring collaboration between Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert that has already topped the charts in the U.S. and Canada, while David Lee Murphy's big return, "Everything's Gonna Be Alright," featuring Kenny Chesney, has made its own mark on the charts and in the hearts of fans. "Meant to Be," this category's final contender, is the record-breaking collaboration between Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line.
