Should Smoking Be Banned in Bars? — Survey of the Day
It wasn’t that long ago that smoking was as synonymous with bars as alcohol and questionable decisions. However, over the last decade, more and more states and local government are banning cigarettes from saloons.
The latest state to consider the measure is Indiana, where Governor Mitch Daniels is supporting legislation which would ban smoking for all indoor workplaces — including bars and restaurants.
According to a survey of 500 registered Indiana voters, released by the Indiana Campaign for Smokefree Air, 71 percent of Hoosiers believe the right of employees and customers to breathe clean air in restaurants and bars is more important than the right of smokers to smoke and businesses owners to allow smoking.
Overall, support for the specific legislation was at 70 percent.
