Survey Reveals Surprising Number of Married Couples Meet Online
The stigma of meeting that special someone online may officially be a thing of the past.
A new survey has found that 35% of marriages between 2005 and 2012 occurred between lovebirds who met online.
Out of the couples that met online, about 45% did so on a dating site, while the rest first came into contact with that special someone via social networks, chat rooms or IMing.
The research also found that marriages that started over the Internet tend to be happier and those couples are less likely to break up than those who met in a different capacity. Couples that began their courtship in a non-online venue are 25% more likely to divorce than their online counterparts.
A total of 19,000 people who married between 2005 and 2012 took part in the study, although you may want to take the results with a serious grain of salt, since famed online dating site eHarmony is the one that commissioned the study.
