The discolored water is being seen across south Cheyenne.

Washing hard surfaces, such as sidewalks, parking lots or driveways with a hose is prohibited except when needed for safety, health or construction-related reasons.

With the arrival of cold weather, the BOPU is reminding people to make sure their water pipes are ready for winter.

The BOPU has the city has been consuming an average of 23 million gallons of water a day during July.

Egenhoff says the water is safe to drink.

A spokeswoman for the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) says the utility's payment drop box was vandalized and the contents were stolen early this (Wednesday) morning.
