A jury convicted John Michael Schnitker, 30, of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, and battery Thursday afternoon in Albany County District Court.

“He couldn’t take the time to call nine-one-one,” said Sanford. “But he did take the time to stash that murder weapon.”

“We were all on a mission to try to get some meth that night,” Schnitker said.

"Clint Gartman was a methamphetamine dealer, and John Schnitker was a methamphetamine addict," said Neubauer.

The state does not need to prove that Schnitker had a specific intent to kill Gartman.

The jury took roughly an hour to return the three guilty verdicts. Schmidt was remanded to custody after the verdict was read.

The child’s specific description of the abuse is included in court documents.
