Taylor Swift, who looked quite adult while dressed in a crisp, white pantsuit on the red carpet of the 2012 MTV VMAs, was youthful and sassy when she performed her record-breaking new single 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' for the first time ever at the ceremony tonight (Sept. 6). She closed out the show, and the producers of the VMAs certainly saved the very best for last.

Swift, wearing a red and white striped shirt and black short shorts during the song, began the performance in a studio setting, holding headphones and pretending to record the song. When she took command of the center stage, she was joined by a troupe of dancers who looked like they were from the music video. They followed her and put on sunglasses in unison as they strutted to the center of the stage. The cutest moment came when Swift's male dancers picked her up, spun her around and flexed their pecks while surrounding her.

For the final chorus, Taylor let the audience take over for her and they did her proud, singing in time with the melody and not missing a lyric. Nor did they get quiet. At all. It would have been nice for the camera to pan to her fellow pop stars singing along in the crowd. Instead, the camera zeroed in on 'Twilight' actor Taylor Lautner, who briefly dated Swift and could very well be the person she is singing about.

Then, for the grand finale, Swift stage dove into the arms of her adoring fans in the front row, and they held her up for a few seconds. We have never, ever seen her do that. Like, ever. It was a cute and out of character move and one heck of a way to close out the 2012 MTV VMAs.
