Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday? Which Stores Will Open Early this Year?

As we enter into the month of November most people will begin thinking about one of two things - Thanksgiving Dinner or about their Christmas shopping and start looking for Black Friday deals.

Black Friday is traditionally one of the biggest shopping days of the year and many stores have even tried to bring those savings forward an extra day, offering door busters beginning on Thanksgiving day.

Store openings on Thanksgiving has been a sore subject around some dinner tables as families rush through meals and hurry to stores to shop.  While others are upset at being forced to work, leaving family members at home in order to assist shoppers looking for deep discounts.

Either way, some retailers are opting not to open on Thanksgiving day this year, while several others are ready to get shoppers into their stores on the traditional family holiday.

According to bestblackfriday.com here is a list of stores that have confirmed they will be opening on Thanksgiving day:

  • Big Lots
  • Game Stop
  • Kohl's
  • Macy's
  • Michaels
  • Rite Aid

Stores that will probably be open on Thanksgiving (not official yet) include:

  • Best Buy
  • Dick's Sporting Goods

  • Kmart
  • Sears
  • Target
  • Toys R Us
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart

But many more stores are joining the ranks of keeping their doors closed on turkey day and opting for a more traditional Black Friday opening:

  • Hobby Lobby

2017 will be another trying time for brick and mortar retailers as a record number of shoppers are expected to stay home and spend more time clicking around the web and doing their Christmas shopping online.
