Wyoming’s Record Store Day
Record Store Day is happening again this year on Saturday, April 16. And although many people buy music from online or chain retailers, many music aficionados still prefer to go to local brick-and-mortar independent locations to purchase their tunes.
There are four places listed as opening their doors to record store day throughout the state on the official Record Store Day website. Sadly, this is no longer true.
Mammoth Music in Riverton has closed the doors to their retail store. Mammoth was a proud supporter of Record Store Day in the past and has great photos from last year on their website. Perhaps in their search for new owners, the spirit of the store will be resurrected.
Second Chance CDs in Sheridan appears to have disappeared as well. The store has no official website. Their Facebook page is relic from 2010, the year of their last update. The phone number is no longer in service.
For those near the two largest Wyoming cities, you are still in luck for some great finds.
Casper
Sonic Rainbow has been a downtown staple in Casper for over 20 years. Sonic Rainbow has had a hand in shaping Casper's great music since their inception. In addition to having their sale this year, they will also host a few bands during their Record Store Day Event from “noonish-5 p.m.”
Cheyenne
Ernie November in Cheyenne is known to have an awesome selection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs and an assortment of other items. They have been around for 20 years. They feature a Wyoming music section and host in-store concerts.
Both stores open at 10 a.m. Limited edition releases are first-come, first-serve.
