Big Names Choose Final Songs for American Idol
Who's going to be the 10th American Idol? I have absolutely no idea, but I do know who's going to pick the songs for the finale.
Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina are the final two contestants and they're going to have some country powerhouses choosing their songs. Carrie Underwood and George Strait -- have been asked to choose one of the final songs each will perform.
Carrie is the fourth season winner, of course and will choose a song for Lauren to perform, while George, who holds the distinction of having more No. 1 songs than any country artist in history, will hand-pick a tune for Scotty.
Country music fans have a lot to be thankful for this 10th season. Several Nashville stars have performed on the show, including Sugarland, Jason Aldean of Lady Antebellum. And to be honest, appearing on the ratings juggernaut hasn't exactly hurt their careers, right?
"I don't know if there's a much bigger show these days, and we're honored that they would actually want to have us on again," Dave Haywood tells The Boot of the trio's performance of their new single on the show. "We'd gotten the call a couple of months ago about [the appearance] when they'd laid out the schedule for the finals for 'Idol,' and we were trying to work in the studio to get something ready, and it was kind of a good, safe target for us to shoot for. We tried not to rush any of the music based on any deadlines, but we were fortunate enough to have 'Just a Kiss' ready to be released and performed."
Scotty and Lauren will perform (May 24) at 6:00 PM Mountain Time on Fox. The season finale will air on Wednesday night, May 25 at 6:00 PM Mountain Time.
