The big 8-0!  George Jones will soon enter his 8th decade and the folks at the Grand Ole Opry figured it would be a nice touch to have the celebration at their house.

George Jones was born on September 12, 1931.  But the Opry celebration is set for the next day, Sunday, the 13th.

There's quite the list of country talent scheduled to participate in the shindig, incuding ALAN JACKSON, MONTGOMERY GENTRY, JOE DIFFIE, PAM TILLIS and the OAK RIDGE BOYS  (all members of the Opry) plus special guests JAMEY JOHNSON, BLACKBERRY SMOKE and ERIC LEE BEDDINGFIELD.

George has been a member of the Opry for 55 years.

The Opry is including the fans in a big way.  They're encouraging them to enter the Opry's Birthday Bash Dessert Contest.  All they have to do is head over to the Opry's Facebook page and submit their best original dessert recipe, and share with friends to get them to vote. The top three recipes will be prepared by a professional chef and judged by George on the night of his  party. One grand prize winner will receive a trip to the Opry Birthday Bash  in October and a chance to have their dessert made a featured item on the menu at the brand new Opry Backstage Grill.

If you would like to participate or get more information, just head on over to the Opry's Facebook page or their website.

I don't think there are many artists who have contributed more to the rich history of country music than George Jones.  For george to still be a force in the world of country music today is a real tribute to him.

No word yet on any television coverage of the event, but stay tuned.
