Keith Urban Reassures Fans Before Surgery

Aside from a few one song performances, Keith Urban has cleared his calendar for the remainder of 2011. He says he’ll be undergoing surgery to remove a polyp that formed during his most recent tour with Jake Owen.

“I just went a little hard on this tour, and got a polyp on my vocal cords, so [I’m] going to have that taken off,” Urban tells Australia’s Kyle and Jackie O radio show. “At some point during the tour I hemorrhaged into a vocal cord and then this little polyp formed and it’s not going anywhere.”

The procedure is fairly common — in fact, British pop star Adele and Kiss rocker Paul Stanley recently underwent the same operation.

“It’s not an uncommon thing, and we’ve certainly been seeing a lot of it recently too, but I think the technology has improved and so the success of this kind of surgery is much greater now than before. I’m hoping I can continue that tradition!” Urban says.

Urban recently appeared during the Glen Campbell tribute at the CMA Awards and will appear at the ‘CMA Country Christmas‘ special on ABC Dec. 1.
