Just as a 1,000 mile journey begins with a single step, an annual tradition must begin with year number one.

That is the hope of Hospice of Laramie, that their inaugural ‘Friends FORE Hospice Charity Golf Classic,’ will become a summer staple and annual event in Laramie.

The charity event will be held Saturday, July 7 at 8 a.m. at Glenn “Red” Jacoby Gold Course with all proceeds supporting the Hospice House Endowment. The Endowment isn’t the only reason for the tournament, the event has been created with the expectation for this to be the premier summer event from Hospice.

Skye Hereen has been planning and setting up the tournament and she says they’re always looking for ways to expand the community outreach for Hospice of Laramie.

“We want to expand our local presence so we can have one big event every season.”

Hospice of Laramie already has the fall Wine Gala and the Breakfast with Santa in the wintertime and a surprise event is currently in the works for next spring.

As far as the golf tournament though, Heeren says they are hoping for a full golf course.

“It’s a “Shotgun” start and we can have two teams on each hole, so we’d love to have 36 teams!”

Participants are encouraged to register early however because only the first 25 teams are guaranteed a golf cart and there are already about a dozen foursomes signed up.

A month out from the event, those interested in sponsorship are also encouraged to do so now, with deals to sponsor a tee or a hole for only $100. One big sponsor already on board is Ken’s Toyota who will be giving away a 2012 Toyota Camry LE if someone hits a hole in one on #7.

Fees per foursome are $300, which, on top of the golf, provide each participant with “Chicago Dogs” from Caterings of Laramie. There will be prizes for first through third place teams and awards for closest to the pin, longest putt, straightest drive and longest drive. There will also be some “fun” awards such as “ugliest attire,” “most trees hit,” and “aqua enthusiast” among others.
