Cody Johnson Performs Lively Rendition of ”Til You Can’t’ at 2022 CMT Music Awards
Cody Johnson performed his No. 1 song, "'Til You Can't" at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday night (April 11). The performance took place on an outdoor stage on Nashville's Lower Broadway.
With Music City's time-honored honky-tonks in the backdrop, Johnson launched into the tune from his 2021 project, Human: The Double Album.
Wearing his classic cowboy hat along with a blazer and jeans, the performance started off subtle, but it grew into a powerful crescendo. The lyrics of the song — which stress the importance of living live to the fullest — shined as Johnson passionately sang. The energetic performance continued while Johnson provided acoustic guitar instrumentation and fiddle and steel guitar sounds backed him up. He eventually made it to the triumphant final chorus, after which he was greeted by enthusiastic applause by the crowd on Broadway.
Johnson released "'Til You Can't" as a single in October of 2021, and it became his first-ever No. 1 song in March. The video for the song was nominated for Video of the Year and Male Video of the Year at the CMT Awards.
Johnson went into the awards show night already a winner, having taken home the award for CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year, beating out Brittney Spencer, Carly Pearce, Jon Pardi, Josh Turner and Lainey Wilson in the category.
The 2022 CMT Awards aired live from Nashville on CBS. Kelsea Ballerini, Anthony Mackie and Kane Brown co-hosted the show. Brown was a last-minute addition to the hosting lineup, as Ballerini had to bow out of attending in person after receiving a positive COVID-19 test. She'll still do her part to host virtually from home.
