Question:

Why is the Laramie landfill dumping household waste into a berm next to Rogers Canyon Road? Back in 2013, the city had a project to establish an Engineered Containment System according to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) lining requirement of 2007, so why has the city abandoned this and is just dumping waste into unlined dirt?

Answer:

"Stage 1, which is unlined and borders Rogers Canyon, is still receiving waste so we can meet the final engineered and DEQ approved contours. The final contours will allow for proper drainage and slope stability into the future. Stage 2, which is the lined area, is partially full and will resume filling and expansion once the Stage 1 final contours have been met. For further information on the landfill operation and development, please call the Solid Waste Manager at 307-721-5309."
