How Many People Are Missing In Wyoming?
According to a study, Wyoming came in seventh for most people missing in a state.
Wyoming has much fewer residents than most states, but the study was done per 100,000 residents. As of right now, there are 45 open missing person cases in Wyoming.
Most of the time when people hear the term 'Missing Person,' they think someone was snatched off the street and taken away. A lot of the times it is juveniles who ran away, or elderly with dementia that wander off. But there is the occasional human trafficking, that's when the Community Action Team steps in and starts investigating.
“A lot of it is, typically women, coerced in this lifestyle,” Cheyenne Police Department Public Information Officer Kevin Malatesta told KGWN. “Offered drugs, offered money, and basically enticed into and kept in it against their will.”
“People should always be aware of their surroundings,” said Officer Malatesta. “If you see suspicious activity, somebody’s following you, you feel unsafe, let us know. We want to know about it so we can investigate it, figure out what’s going on.”
