Campbell County Tops 2026 WyoPreps Preseason Softball Poll

The 2026 Wyoming High School softball season starts this weekend with tournament action. Just in time, the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Preseason Softball Poll was released on Wednesday afternoon by WyoPreps.com. Defending state champion Campbell County starts the year as the top-ranked team. The Camels earned all but one vote for first place.

WYOPREPS COACHES AND MEDIA PRESEASON SOFTBALL RANKINGS 2026

The only other school to receive a first-place vote was last year’s runner-up, Cheyenne Central. The Indians were not second, but third in the preseason rankings. Cross-town rival Cheyenne East snagged the No. 2 spot by six points in the balloting. There was a tie for fourth. Sheridan and Thunder Basin completed the preseason poll. Both teams got 75 points in voting.

Five more teams got votes in the preseason rankings. That included every team that made the state tournament in 2025. All those schools earned at least two votes from coaches and media in the state.

The 2026 season starts on Friday and Saturday with all 16 teams at the 307 Softball Invitational in Cheyenne. The Capital City will host the state championships on May 21 through May 23. The two regional tournaments will be in Gillette (hosted by Campbell County) and Rock Springs on May 15 and 16, 2026.

Here are the top five in our preseason softball poll. The complete voting breakdown is below.

All Class:

1 = Campbell County

2 = East

3 = Central

T4 = Sheridan

T4 = Thunder Basin
