Holingshead was a member of the Sheriff's Office for 27 years, rising to the rank of Captain in charge of the county jail. In 2022, following an announcement that long-time Sheriff Danny Glick was retiring, Hollingshead ran as a Republican for sheriff. He finished second in the GOP primary behind former Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak, who was elected as sheriff in November of that year.

Campaign Announcement Touts Budget Experience With Sheriff's Office

In his commission campaign announcement, Hollingshead says he is a third-generation Laramie County resident and touts his experience managing a  budget when he was with the sheriff's office, saying "Don managed the $20+million budget for the Laramie County Sheriff's Office during his tenure as Jail Captain. He identified areas of budget surplus/shortfall and made corrective recommendations."

The release also highlights community involvement, saying  "Don has been deeply involved in serving the community for almost three decades, dedicating his time and expertise to various volunteer positions. Currently, he serves as an Elder in his church and has been an active member of the Kiwanis for seven years, including serving on their board. Additionally, he has commendably contributed to the Safe Harbor Children's Advocacy Center for nine years, holding the position of Board Chair. His commitment to community service is also evident through his long-standing volunteer work with Special Olympics, spanning over 25 years, among other significant contributions.''

The announcement also says Hollingshead is "pro communication" and concludes by saying he "is poised to leverage his decades of knowledge and experience to proactively address the diverse needs of all Laramie County residents, ensuring comprehensive and effective representation."

Don Hollingshead will be interviewed on the Weekend In Wyoming program on KGAB radio on Saturday at 11:33 a.m.
