With a good chance of temperatures in the subzero range over the next few days, the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities has some advice on protecting your pipes.

Advice For Protecting Your Pipes

A BOPU news release offers the following tips:

  • Keep kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors open to allow for warm air to circulate.
  • Locate the furthest place where water enters the building and open the faucet just enough to allow a slow drip.  This will keep water moving and reduce the chances of freezing pipes.  Use a bucket to collect the water for other uses such as watering plants.
  • Insulate pipes that may be vulnerable to the cold or have previously been problematic.
  • Use “heat tape” or similar materials on exposed water pipes.
  • If you have an attached garage, keep its door shut. Plumbing may be routed through the unheated garage leaving it more vulnerable to freezing.
  • Know the location of your home or business’ water shut-off valve and test it regularly.

The release says that if you find a pipe that is leaking you should turn off water at the main valve to prevent water damage to the building. Anyone with a water or sewer related emergency should call 307 637-6471.

Old Medicine Of The Chugwater Wyoming Drugstore

If you visit the tiny town of Chugwater Wyoming you'll find the newly restored Soda Fountain.

In fact it's Wyoming's oldest soda fountain and malt shot.

It's always worth stopping in for breakfast or lunch, or maybe a shake or malt.

The place was a drug store and soda fountain for the longest time.

Back then soda was actually used to cure an upset stomach.

So what sort of old medicines were left behind by Chugwater's last pharmacist?

It turns out, some of them are on display.
