The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service is warning southeast Wyoming residents to be on the lookout for extremely large hail, heavy rain, winds of up to 60 miles per hour, and even a few tornadoes this afternoon.

A statement posted on the agency's website says that today's weather "could be a doozy."

The agency issued a special weather email statement early this morning which included the following points:

  • Severe Thunderstorms looking likely for areas east of the Laramie Range into the Nebraska Panhandle today.

 

  • Timing-wise, storms could form as early as noon, but more likely from 2PM to 8 PM today.

 

  • All modes of severe thunderstorm weather is possible, including hail in excess of 2 inches as well as a few tornadoes.

 

Thunderstorms expected to dissipate after 8 PM this evening.

Going to be an active severe weather day across parts of southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle. All modes of severe thunderstorm weather is possible today, including extremely large hail, very strong downburst winds, very heavy rainfall, and a few tornadoes. Timing wise, storms are expected to begin developing around noon time. Main window for severe thunderstorms looks to be from 2PM this afternoon to 8PM this evening. Stay weather aware today, it could be a doozy!
