The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service is warning people about the possibility of severe storms today.

Hazards with these storms could include damaging winds. hail and frequent lightning. The agency posted the following on its website:

 A warm summer day is expected across the area, with increasing chances of strong to potentially severe thunderstorms by the afternoon. The main hazards in the strongest of thunderstorms that develop will be damaging winds, lightning, and hail up to 1 inch in diameter.

A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Increasing clouds, with a high near 89. West southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon.

A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly clear, with a low around 58. East wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south southwest after midnight.
