Laramie residents interested in modern homesteading will have the opportunity to learn all about it at the eighth local food gathering on Saturday, April 29, at the Laramie High School.

The event is organized by Laramie Local Foods, with help from the University of Wyoming ACRES student farm.

“This is the second year they [ACRES] helped organize the event,” said LLF member Sonya Moore. “They’ve been wonderful.”

Moore said the gathering will feature 12 workshop session that will help Laramie citizens learn about the productions and consumption of locally produced foods.

She said topics in the sessions will include seed bombs, Wyoming climate past and present, mastering gluten free baking, edible insects, water quality and capturing, as well as]tourism and entertainment opportunities at local ranches.

Moore said the Girl Scout troop No. 1207 will be presenting the session on seed bombs as well as a workshop on reusing plastic bottles as planters.

Moore said soups, sandwiches and Girl Scout cookies will be offered for lunch, paid for by the $5 admission fee.

Moore said the doors open at 8:30 a.m. and sessions will run from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

The gathering is also hosting a showing of the film ‘Inhabit,’ which Moore said is about permaculture, at the Agriculture Auditorium on the UW campus on Friday, April 28.

“If you don’t know what permaculture is and want to, you should come,” Moore said. “It’s too complicated to explain in a few sentences.”

The showing is at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public, however donations will be accepted.
