A Laramie man pleaded not guilty to strangulation of a household member in Albany County District Court Tuesday, March 14.

Buddy E. Curby, 45, could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

According to the affidavit, Curby was arrested after a Laramie Police officer responded to a physical violence complaint at a residence in Albany County. When the officer arrived at the residence, he noticed the victim had bruises on both her arms and was bleeding from her nose and mouth.

The victim told the officer that she and Curby were in a relationship and were living together and that earlier in the evening the victim and Curby had gotten into a fight over Curby’s supposed infidelity. According to court documents, the victim told the officer that Curby had held her down on the living room couch and pressed his forearm into her throat.

The victim said Curby then dragged her into the kitchen by her hair, where Curby head-butted the victim in her face and caused her teeth to fall out and cut the inside of her mouth, according to the affidavit.

According to court documents, the victim said Curby then dragged her into the bathroom and threw her in the bathtub, where he proceeded to place both his hands around her neck and choke her until she lost consciousness.

Another Laramie Police officer responded to the scene and spoke to Curby, according to court documents. Curby gave conflicting stories as to how the victim received her injuries, at one point suggesting that she inflicted them on herself, court documents state.

Curby remains incarcerated on a $15,000 cash bond. His trial is set for Aug. 10 and 11.
