“Pumpkin Spice” Invades Coffee Shops Well Before Fall
Tuesday, August 28th will be the day Pumpkin Spice Lattes returns to the coffee wasteland, bringing with it cries of "YAS," the subtle clopping of Ugg boots, and the shutter of Instagram clicking. What's the right filter? And no, not coffee filters.
Starbucks has been releasing its famed flavor earlier and earlier, encroaching on the summer season with its premature foray into fall. Though other shops also offer the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte, Starbucks is credited with starting the trend 15 years ago when they first released the seasonal flavor in 2003. Since then, it's become a phenomenon, with Pumpkin Spice everything taking over grocery stores for months at a time when the leaves begin to change.
This year is the earliest the coffee conglomerate has ever rolled out the autumn caffeinated confection. 2017 saw the PSL returning to the menu on September 5th, a full week later than 2018's release date.
If you're excited about the return of Pumpkin Spice, good for you! If not, well, be ready to avoid Starbucks for a few months, lest you get caught in the orbit of a leggings and over-sized sweaters, and yoga pants. Pumpkin Spice is back.
You have been warned.
