The Wyoming Joint Education Interim Committee has voted to sponsor a bill adding the University of Wyoming as an ex-officio, non-voting member to the State Board of Education (SBE). Wyoming Community College Commission Executive Director Jim Rose is already an ex-officio board member.

SBE Chair Pete Gosar said that adding a UW representative to the board will benefit education for the entire state.

“My hope is that this will lead to broader, richer discussions about standards. Having everybody at the table will help us make better policy decisions for Wyoming education,” Gosar said.

Gosar hopes that having UW as a member of the board will open up discussions about UW’s College of Education and Wyoming’s future educators.

Gosar said he has been working towards getting a UW representative on the board since he first became SBE chair.

“Our goal is to get the best education policy going.”

The legislature will consider the bill in the upcoming session.
