The University of Wyoming’s 2018 Snowy Range Summer Theatre season opens this week with the off-Broadway hit “The Marvelous Wonderettes.”

“The Marvelous Wonderettes” by Roger Bean will run June 12-16 at 7:30 p.m. each night in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre. The show pays homage to the high school song leader squads of the 1950’s and 1960’s, UW says.

Taking place at the 1958 Springfield High School prom, the show centers around song leaders Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy, four girls with voices as big as their bouffant hairstyles.

The heroines must rally together to entertain their high school after they discover they are the last-minute replacement for their prom night’s scheduled performers. In act two, the girls reunite to take the stage at their 10-year class reunion.

The show is presented by the UW Department of Theatre and Dance and is directed by department chair and Professor Leigh Selting.

Tickets are $10 for the public and $7 for seniors, UW faculty, staff and students and children over age 5. For tickets or ticket information, call (307) 766-666 or visit the UW Fine Arts box office, or visit the Wyoming Union or Performing Arts Center box offices.
