WYDOT, F.E. Warren Working To Address Traffic Flow Issues

The Wyoming Department of Transportation and F.E. Warren Air Force Base officials are working to address traffic flow issues near the Happy Jack Road base entrance.

That's according to a WYDOT news release.

The release says the two organizations are working jointly to come up with solutions for dealing with increased traffic flow around Gate 2, which is now the main entrance.  The increased traffic at Gate 2 is due to the fact that base officials closed Gate 1, off of Pershing Boulevard and Randall Avenue, in July.

The visitors center will remain open, but officials say the change to using Gate 2 more has improved safety and security for Airmen and their families. Wyoming Highway 210 (Happy Jack Road) also offers the space needed to handle traffic surges during busy hours.

The short term plan for addressing the increased traffic at Gate 2 is having the military base control traffic flow until WYDOT installs temporary traffic signals. The long term solution is for the installation of permanent traffic signals.

Both the temporary and permanent signals will be installed at two locations to the east and west of Interstate 25. Signals will be placed at the end of the on and off-ramps on I-25. Officials are hoping to have the temporary signals up in about three months or so. The plans call for the permanent signals to be in place by late 2020.

In the meantime, motorists are asked to be patient and use caution when traveling in that area.
