Wyoming State Engineer Announces Retirement
Pat Tyrrell, Wyoming State Engineer, is set to retire in January 2019. The official announcement was made in a bulletin from Governor Matt Mead on Tuesday.
The Wyoming State Engineer is a cabinet-level position and serves as the chief authority on water in the state. This includes overseeing the permitting of water rights, regulation of the use of water, as well as representing the state on a handful of interstate compact commissions. The State Engineer represents Wyoming on the North Platte Decree Committee, the Western States Water Council, and the Colorado River Salinity Control Forum as well.
Tyrrell's retirement plan has him staying on-board through the upcoming 2019 General Legislative Session. He will briefly serve under Governor-elect Mark Gordon and therefore will have held the position under four different Wyoming Governors.
Tyrrell, a Cheyenne native, has served as State Engineer for the last 18 years.
