Extremely cold temperatures were recorded overnight in southeast Wyoming.

The double-digit negative temperatures included an unofficial low of -21 at the Laramie Airport, while the mercury at the Cheyenne Airport hit an unofficial low of -16.

Both airports recorded windchills of -38, and only relatively weak winds kept the windchill from dipping much lower. The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service issued the following statement a little before 4 a.m. on Monday:

"A chilly morning for the region with very cold wind chills. Frostbite may occur in as little as 30 minutes. For your furry family members, ensure they have access to warm, enclosed, dry bedding and fresh water. Be sure to limit your time outside and if you do need to venture out, bundle up any extremities."
