Blake Shelton on Taylor Swift as a ‘The Voice’ Mentor: ‘She’s Super Smart’
Taylor Swift will make her The Voice comeback in Season 17 of the hit NBC singing competition, and coaches Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson are excited to have her there.
Swift will serve as what the show is calling a "mega mentor" for the contestants who are hoping to win this season, and if you ask Shelton, they couldn't be any luckier.
"She's super smart and she’s really good at looking at somebody's performance and listening to them and being able to go, 'I know a couple things here that instantly, I think, we can tweak on and it will take it to the next level,'" he tells Entertainment Tonight of Swift's talents as a mentor. "She's really good at that."
Country music's resident funny man also couldn't help joking around that it was actually him who made Taylor Swift a star.
"A lot of people don’t realize I raised Taylor Swift in the country music world and she knows it," Shelton ribs.
Clarkson also got in on the fun, suggesting that Shelton had taken some fashion advice from Swift this season. "Oh, there's actually something we shot that you're going to love if you want to see Blake in a really awesome sparkly jacket," she says. "We pulled up and [Shelton was] in a magical number. It was good.

In a separate interview with People, Clarkson shared what she enjoyed most when working with the "Lover" singer — that Swift "care about the artists."
"That’s what I loved about working with her the first time," says Clarkson. "I loved that she actually cared and invested. She cried a couple of times. She was really into it."
Swift was previously on Season 7 of The Voice, when Shelton, Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani served as coaches. Stefani returns this season, along with Clarkson and John Legend.
The new season of The Voice begins Sept. 23 at 8PM ET on NBC.
