Converse County Sheriff’s Deputy Arrested in Casper for Delivering Prescription Painkillers
A Converse County Sheriff's deputy was arrested Thursday evening after a confidential source reportedly told authorities the man would be delivering oxycodone.
Detention officer Michael Joe Martinez, 37, was taken into custody on a charge of possession with intent to deliver.
The Converse County Sheriff's Office has place Martinez on paid administrative leave pending further investigation.
Court documents say shortly after 6:20 p.m. Thursday, an unnamed source told detectives Martinez would be delivering 5-mg oxycodone pills near an address on Wilkins Circle in Caser.
When asked what "favors" -- a term often used to describe illegal drugs -- he had, Martinez allegedly sent the source a picture of a bottle of acne cleanser with the label "Oxy."
The source asked if the pills were 10- or 30-mg, and Martinez said they were 5-mg pills, according to an affidavit.
Martinez reportedly indicated he would deliver the oxycodone to the source, and would be arriving in a black truck. He described himself to the source as being 32 years old, 5'10" and 180 lbs., charging papers say.
Detectives saw a black pickup truck park near the address on Wilkins Circle shortly after 7 p.m. The source reportedly received a message from Martinez, saying he had arrived. Martinez was given a predetermined location at which to meet the source.
Martinez allegedly arrived at that location and was greeted by detectives.
On his person, detectives allegedly found a prescription pill bottle which contained 10 oxycodone pills.
A search of the truck turned up a black Glock 23, which was logged into evidence for safe-keeping, according to the affidavit. An iPhone was seized as evidence pending a search warrant.
The truck, which was legally parked, was secured and left.
The Converse County Sheriff's Office has not responded to a request for comment.
