Cheyenne Fire & Rescue to Give Away Free Smoke Alarm Batteries
In an effort to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries, Cheyenne Fire and Rescue is teaming up with Energizer to give away 450 smoke alarm batteries.
The free giveaway will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Cheyenne Depot. There is a limit of four batteries per household.
"This is a great time of year to get people thinking about their smoke alarms, " said Prevention Division Lieutenant Steve Zimmerman. "When we change our clocks to end Daylight Saving Time, we need to also change the batteries in our smoke alarms."
"On average, a family only has three minutes to get out of a house fire safely," added Zimmerman. "A working smoke alarm can give you and your family the critical extra seconds to make a safe escape."
Zimmerman also recommends people replace their smoke alarms every 10 years.
"Check the back of your device to see what the manufacture date is," said Zimmerman. "If it's older than 10 years, you need to replace it."
