Abandoned Golf Course Could Be Key to Solving CFD Parking Woes

Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins says the former golf course at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, which was closed in 2020 following six years of financial losses totaling nearly $300,000, could be the answer to Cheyenne Frontier Days' parking problems.

CFD had planned on moving its Park-n-Ride service from Interstate 25 and Happy Jack Road to a new plot of land on Southwest Drive in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the show and the move never happened.

"Customer parking has been on all our minds for a while now," Collins said Friday in his Mayor's Minute column.

"One parking solution could be using the abandoned golf course on the other side of I-25 and building a pedestrian bridge to get folks from their car directly to Frontier Park," he added.

Collins says he met with CFD officials last week to discuss the potential idea and what steps need to be taken to make it a reality.

"CFD has been a staple of our community for 126 years now," said Collins. "Keeping CFD relevant today and in the future is critical to our tourism efforts."
